Sheeple vs. People

Or how to get noticed in a very busy world

be seen as important

All too often, we get lost in the crowd. We go this way and we go that way, but so does everyone else. It seems the same thing happens to most network marketers. They just go along with the crowd and no one even notices them. That’s a really bad thing for any business person!

Why would anyone want to do business with you? If you’re just like every else out there then there is no real incentive for someone to work with you. One clone is just as good as another clone.

It’s time to separate yourself from the crowd and make yourself into someone worth working with!

Get their attention!

If you want to be noticed, you’ll have to produce very good content for the marketplace. Network marketing is a marketplace of ideas. That means that you have to have good ideas to share with your audience. They can be your ideas, but they don’t have to be. You can take someone else’s training and put your own little spin on the information and share it with your audience.

If you happen to have your own ideas then all the better. You’ll be the only sharing that information.

I put sheeple in the subtitle because it seems that most people just follow the herd. They all do the same thing. Usually doing the same thing as everyone else means doing nothing. If someone is brave and wants to go out and do something, they tend to ask around to find out what worked for someone else and they do that. That doesn’t guarantee that they’ll get the same results.

I’ve found that you can attract an audience with information that you’ve “borrowed” from other people, but you’ll need information of your own if you want to hold that audience.

hold their attention

How do you do that?

That can be difficult especially if you’re new to the business. I would suggest that you focus on the things that you’re really good at and share what you know about those things. If you are good at any part of the sales process, share that. Maybe you’re good at inviting people to see a product demonstration or a business presentation. Or maybe you know how to talk to your warm market about your business and your products. There are about 97% of all network marketers who aren’t making any money, anything that you can share with them will probably be helpful!

Don’t be afraid to share what you know!

As you learn more things and become proficient with them, you’ll have more and more things to talk about.

Beware the gurus!

I’ve begun to notice that the online gurus tend to talk about the same things at the same time. This isn’t always true, but it happens enough to be bothersome. One of them decides to make network marketing great again and several more will seem to come out of the woodwork and join them. There’s nothing wrong with joining their conversation, that is if you have something to contribute to it. Try not to just parrot what they are saying. If you’re going to say the same things that the gurus are saying, you’d be better off just quoting them!

Should you be a contrarian?

A contrarian is someone who takes an opposing view from the majority of people’s view. I would say that in most cases the answer would be no, you don’t want to be a contrarian. I think that being controversial just for the sake of controversy is bad. You can do and get away with it, if you know that you can defend your position. If you can’t defend it then you run the risk of being seen as a kook or just someone looking to get noticed.

You’ll probably lose your audience and your credibility if you try that.

If you want to stand out in the crowd …

I can some all of this up with one quote by Steve Martin:

Be so good that they can’t ignore you!”
