Encouragement, it’s a part of leadership

As you grow your business, you will be asked to be many things for many people.  You’ll have to be a teacher, a helper, a psychologist and maybe a even a babysitter.

One of the most important things that you will be asked to do is to offer encouragement.  The network marketing business is difficult.  Many will fall by the wayside.  It will be your job to offer the people who remain, your heartfelt encouragement.

The dictionary defines encouragement as, to inspire with courage, spirit, or hope;  to attempt to persuade; to give help or patronage to.

I like to break the word into its two different parts.  The first part of the word is en-.  It is a prefix the means”make” as in “turn into.” The second part is courage and that means, the  mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.  Then you can combine the two definitions as, making someone or turning them into a person who has the mental and moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.

Notice that it says, “withstand danger, fear and difficulty.”  It doesn’t say that they won’t experience those things.  Having courage doesn’t mean not having fear, it means having fear of something, but doing it anyway.

We will all have fear and have difficult times when building our businesses.  Breaking through those feelings are what will make us people of courage.  It will be your job to offer your recruits encouragement.

offer words of encouragement

Of course the best way to give encouragement is to lead by example.  Show your recruits that even though you may have fears that you are able to break through them and continue to move forward.  Offer them the hope that if they are able to break through the walls of fear that it will get easier each time that you are faced with a difficult situation.    There is hope for all of us!
