Prospecting for MLM leads sucks!
No matter what kind of business you’re in, you’ll need to generate a steady stream of leads coming into your business. If you’re a plumber, you need people to talk to about fixing a toilet or installing a water heater. If you’re a real estate agent, you’ll need to find people who are interested in buying a house or better yet, find people who want to sell their house.
The same is true about network marketers. A network marketer is going to need a steady stream of leads in order to have a enough people to talk to. How can we generate enough leads to have a successful business?
There are two main ways that any business owner can generate leads. The first is through prospecting for MLM leads and the second way is to use marketing and advertising.
The first method that most network marketing companies ask their distributors to use is prospecting. Prospecting for MLM leads is the more labor intense method, of the two. Prospecting for MLM leads is when you are physically looking for people to join your business or buy your products. This means that you are actually talking to people to find out if they have a need or desire to do either of those things. This can be a face to face meeting or it can be done over the phone.
An example of this method would be to drive to a local mall and talk to everyone that you come in contact with. You could call everyone that you know, work with or are related to and ask them if they’d be interested in doing business with you.
This method is time consuming and it is more likely to result in the distributor being told, “No.”
I do think that prospecting for MLM leads has its place in network marketing. I just don’t want to do it!
Then you have another option and that is advertising and marketing. This method involves doing something that attracts the attention of a lot of people in order to find the few of them that might have an interest in doing business with you. This method is not as labor intense and is a lot less time consuming.
An example of this method would be to run an ad in a local paper and have people call you and tell you that they want see about doing business with you. You could run a Facebook or Google ad and have people contact you about doing business with you. You could put a sign in your front yard and have people contact you.
This method is more passive and doesn’t require you to hear the word “No,” as often as prospecting for MLM leads.
I’ve found, over the years, that rejection is a business killer for network marketers.
I don’t know about you, but finding an effective way to generate leads using marketing and advertising sounds a lot better than having to go out, meet people and talk directly to them in order find out if they have any interest in doing business with you! Once you figure out a way to advertise that works for your particular business, you can run multiple ads in different places. You can have an ad running on Facebook, Google, in your local newspaper and have that sign in your front yard, at the same time. All of them generating leads for your business. Doesn’t that sound more efficient to you?
I have one last question for you. When was the last time that a successful business owner walked up to you at the mall and asked you if you would like to see about doing some business together?
I’ve never had a dentist walk up to me at the mall. I’ve never had a plumber walk up to me at the mall. I’ve never been stopped on the street and asked if I need a new roof on my house.
Why do network marketer insist on running their businesses so much differently than all of those other businesses? It just never made sense to me.
Do you hate prospecting for MLM leads as much as I do? If so, what are you going to do about that?
