Who was William Clement Stone?
W. Clement Stone was born in 1902, in Chicago, Illinois. His father died in 1905. He began selling newspapers to earn money to help his mother, at age 6. By 1915, he owned his own newsstand. Later, he moved to Detroit to help his mother in the insurance agency that she opened. There here learned how to sell insurance.
At the ripe old age of 17, Stone opened his own insurance agency called, Combined Insurance Company of America. It was through his insurance company that he amassed a vast fortune.
He espoused a life philosophy that he called, Positive Mental Attitude.
He wrote three books. The first was written with Napoleon Hill. It’s called, “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.” The second is called, “The Success System That Never Fails.” The book was written by Stone as an autobiography. The last book he wrote is called, “The Other Side of the Mind.” He wrote that book with Norma Lee Browning.
Later in life, W. Clement Stone began to donate money as a philanthropist. He gave away over $257,000,000.
Remarkably, he lived to be 100 years old. He died in 2002.
