Are you a victim of your own habits?

21 quotes about how your habits are holding you back in life!

quotations about habits

I’m in the middle of rereading Og Mandino’s book, The Greatest Salesman in the World. When I first read the book, I thought that it was a good book. Upon rereading it, I realize that it is one of the most important books ever written. The wisdom contained in its pages is profound!

One of the most profound statements in the book is found in the section about habits. It says:

I have surrendered my free will to the years of accumulated habits and the past deeds of my life have already marked out a path which threatens to imprison my future.”

I don’t know about you, but I find that statement to be one of the scariest that I’ve ever read. I have given up my free will to years of built up habits. That means that I have no choice, but to do that which has become habit. All of my habits now threaten to take over and imprison my future. If I want a different or better future, I better do something!

It’s no wonder that so many people are willing to be stuck where they are. It’s much easier to be a slave of their current habits than to make changes to one’s life. Habits are making ruts for people. They get stuck in one and they’re never able to get out of it.

That happens to almost everyone. It’s a rare person who can shrug off the chains of the own habits. It’s what they’re used to. It’s very comfortable for them. It’s easier!

I happened to find some interesting quotes about habits that I think will be useful in overcoming your bad habits and putting new and good habits in their place. I hope these quotes help you to get out of your rut … even if you don’t realize that you’re in one.

It is hard to let old beliefs go. They are familiar. We are comfortable with them and have spent years building systems and developing habits that depend on them. Like a man who has worn eyeglasses so long that he forgets he has them on, we forget that the world looks to us the way it does because we have become used to seeing it that way through a particular set of lenses.
