Some advice for network marketers

Advice for new network marketers .. and old

network maketers

I was contacted by a relatively new network marketer. He’s been in the business for less than a year. That kind of makes him a baby. He told me that he hasn’t had much luck and was looking for some advice to help him along. I thought about what I might tell him to help him. I didn’t want to get bogged down in the “how to do it” part of the business, at least not for now. I wanted him to think about things for a while and work it all out for himself.

Here are the 7 things that I told him. We’ll see if any of this helps him.

Don’t look to the outside world to validate you and your business

As you try to build your business, you will run into many people, especially your friends and family, who will tell you that this business won’t work. They mean well, but you deserve a chance to make this business yours! You shouldn’t be counting on any of these people to understand why you have to do this.

If you are looking for validation, you might not find it in your warm market. You should have enough confidence in yourself and your business so that you don’t need to find validation from anyone other than yourself. If you are lacking this confidence, you must develop it and do it quickly. This is not a business for the faint of heart.

Listen more

The tendency, for most new network marketers, is too talk to much. They have someone who wants to sign up or buy a product and somehow they manage to talk them out of it. If this has happened to you, you shouldn’t feel bad. Like I said, most new network marketers do this. Learn to listen to everyone that you talk to. You should be asking questions and really listening to their answers. This will allow you to get to know them much better and gives you the opportunity to find out what kinds of problems they have. You just might have a solution for them!

Have a plan

Most business owners don’t have any idea of what direction they are going or where they want to wind up. It’s very easy to get lost, if you don’t know where you want to go. You should write down your plan, know your destination and work out how you will get there.

Advertise rather than prospecting

you should advertise for you network marketing business

Almost all network marketers are taught to go through their warm market and see if any of them would like to own a business or buy a product. This is an inexpensive way to start a business. Once you get through your warm market, you will need to dive into the cold market. You have two choices of how to work the cold market. You can go out and talk to people or you can do advertising and let people come to you about your business and your products. Having people contact you because they want to know more about what you have to offer is so much easier than prospecting.

Have a sales process for your opportunity and your products

You should have a real plan for how to move people from one stage of the selling process to the next. This is where you are going to make your money, so don’t fly by the seat of your pants. Decide how you are going to advertise and when someone contacts you, you know what you are going to say and how you are going to move them to the next stage. When they get to the next stage, know what you are going to say to them. Always know what you are going to say to people who are involved in your selling process and keep them moving!

Use third party tools

Using a third party tool to help you is not cheating! Your company probably has a video to help you to sell the products and to help you to recruit people. Use them! This does 2 things, it give you a perfect presentation every time and allows you to contact more than one person at a time. If you get a DVD into someone’s hands, it almost as good as you being there.

Learn how to teach your methods to your team

Teach your team how to teach their team! This is when duplication occurs. What hurts most network marketers is that the farther your team gets away from you, in depth, the more likely they are to not be trained properly. A recruit who is in your level 10 won’t get the hands on training, from you, that you gave your front line recruits. As time goes on, your “pyramid” will turn into a diamond. This is when you can get stagnation. You can avoid this by training your front line to train their front line and hopefully it continues in depth. If not, this is the time that you should be willing to get your hands dirty!

There you have the 7 pieces of advice that I gave this new network marketer. Hopefully, some of it resonates with you and can help you as you move forward.
