What is blog commenting?

What is blog commenting and how can we use it to get traffic for our sites?

This strategy is a great way to leverage other people’s blogs, to siphon off traffic.

There are two main things that you can get from commenting on other people’s blogs.  You can get a backlink, if you find a dofollow blog or you can get some of the traffic that other bloggers are generating.  It’s a little sneaky but, well worth it.

It’s not really theft.  It can be a win-win-win arrangement.  The blog owner gets good content for their blog.  The reader gets the post that they went to the site to read and then they get to see your comment, which leads them to your blog and you benefit by getting more traffic.

You DO NOT need to find blogs that have dofollow links.  If you do find one or some that are dofollow then it is a bonus but for this strategy you just need to find blogs in your niche.  We do this to generate more traffic to our site.

What is blog commenting

Here is what you need to input into your favorite search engine to find blogs in your niche.

“Your Niche” + “post comment” – “comments closed” (include “quotation marks for exact match”)

What that means is that the search engine will find sites that have your niche term listed on the site + it will find blogs (“post comment” is usually found on blogs) – minus pages that have the comment section closed to new comments.

You could also short cut it and go to Google’s  Blog Search and enter “Your Niche” – “comment closed”.

You are looking for blogs that are ranked in the top 1,000,000 for traffic.  That’s a decent amount of traffic.  As a rule of thumb sites that are Alexa.com ranked 1,000,000 will get about 1,000 visitors per month and sites ranked at 20,000 will get about 30,000 visitors per month.  You can kind of estimate traffic from that range.

The main thing in blog commenting, for traffic, is to add value to the conversation.  The main thing in blog commenting, for traffic, is to add value to the conversation!

Yes, I said that twice.  It is critical!!

We’ve all been in a group of friends shooting the breeze about this or that.  Then all of a sudden someone says something out of right field.  It has nothing to do with anything being discussed.  You kind of have to scratch your head and wonder why anyone would say that.  How stupid can you be to say something like that?

Well, blog commenting for traffic is the same way.  Someone has gone to the trouble of writing a post for the whole world to see, you need to honor their efforts and read the post and comment about what they are talking about.  For most posts, it should only take 3-4 minutes to read.

You can’t just say, “Great post, thanks!”

Your comments should be on topic and to the point.  You should write about 30-50 words.  This is your time to shine!  You need to write something that is interesting, informative or just outright profound.  When one of the blog’s visitors reads your comment, you want them to say, “Wow!  That is someone that I need to listen to.”

They will then click on your name in the Name space.  No keywords here!  You are not going for a backlink, just the traffic!  You can link back to a related post that you have written or at worst, link back to your home page.

What is blog commenting?

It’s your chance to look brilliant, in 50 words or less!  It is a great opportunity to add value to someone else’s blog.  It is an awesome way to get targeted traffic to your blog.

This method can and usually is time consuming.  You can outsource the task, if you need to.   I prefer to do my own commenting as I want people to see what I have to say and how I say it.

You can sign up for the RSS feeds from the “best sites” in your niche.  Best meaning the sites that give you the best traffic return for the amount of time you spend commenting.  The RSS feed will keep you on top of new posts and let you get in early so more people can read your comments.

I’m in the network marketing niche. If you are as well here a handful of sites that you can start to comment on.

Nicky Price’s Blog

Joseph Archibald’s Blog

Andrew J Cass’ Blog

Mia Davies’ Blog

Sonny Lanorias’ Blog

Oliver Tausend’s Blog

Those blogs are all top 500,000 blogs.  That should get you started.  I’ll try to add more as time goes by.

  1. Hi Richard,

Thank for the guidelines and the advantage of commenting on blogs. Although every blog comes with commenting feature, most blog owners do not give much importance to this feature.

I have to agree with you on dofollow blogs. It is just a bonus. But by commenting, you get more exposure and traffic. Thanks for the list of niche blogs to start commenting.
