4 network marketing tips
The first thing that you probably noticed when you saw your company’s business presentation was the fact that it looked easy to do! Once you’ve signed up, they let you know that it really isn’t all that easy.
All kidding aside, what you should’ve noticed was that you can’t build a big business or make a lot of money unless you are able to build a good team around you. You can’t do this business, successfully, all by yourself. You can’t buy your way to the top and you can’t recruit your way to the top. It takes a concerted effort by a lot of people to get anyone to the top levels of your company’s pay plan.
You might have noticed how few people actually get there.
If you want to reach the top levels, then you are going to need to do some things that will help your downline succeed. Here is a list of the most important things that you will need to do, and do them consistently.
First and foremost you will need to train your downline. Most people who join a network marketing company have no idea what to do. Not knowing what to do or how to do it is one of the biggest killers of network marketing businesses. In order to accomplish this I would suggest a few ideas.
Have training calls on a weekly basis
Once you have signed someone up, you need to get on the phone or meet with them in person. You need to discuss what kind of ideas they have to build their business. Find out what kind of strengths and weakness they have. If their skill set will lend itself to doing what they want to do then teach them how to do it and send them on their way. They may not have the proper skill set to do everything or even what they want to do. Don’t invalidate their ideas. Let them know that you will work with them and hopefully, they will see the success they want. You can gently lead them in another direction that is more suited to them, if you have to.
An example might be someone who doesn’t like to write, but wants to blog for leads. Blogging might work for them. Most people who start a blog, get better at it, over time. You could also lead them to hiring a writer to do their blogging for them. Or you can suggest something that is better suited to their particular skill set.
You should also have weekly training calls for your entire team. This give you a chance to get everyone together, in the same place, at the same time. You can use this time on the phone, to teach, to answer questions, to recognize people’s accomplishments and make any kind of announcements that the team might need to hear.
You should have team events
This would, usually, be for the part of your team that is in your local area. You don’t have to do anything that is extravagant. You could just invite your team to a cookout, in your back yard. This is a way to show your gratitude, in an informal setting. It also gives everyone a chance to enjoy the camaraderie or their fellow teammates. Remember, people want to feel like they are part of a team or a part of something that is bigger than they are.
You can certainly have team meetings for the other parts of your team, but you would have to conduct an online meeting. Obviously, you can’t have a cookout online, but you could invite a member of your upline to give a talk about a certain subject, of your choosing. You could also find someone who isn’t part of your company do give a training call.
Have a monthly newsletter
This is just another way to stay in touch with your team. I would encourage you to print out a newsletter and send it through the USPS, that’s the “snail mail” we here about. People get a bazillion emails every month. You don’t want your newsletter to just be another piece of email.
You should use your newsletter to introduce new team members to the group. People love to read about themselves and this will really make them feel like they are part of the team. A newsletter is also a great place to give “shout outs” for any accomplishments that any team member has achieved. This can be something as small as the new distributor having just sold their first product all the way up to a person achieving a rank advancement. This puts it in writing and gives everyone something that they can touch!
You can also include any kind of training or team goals that you might have. You need to make it fun and easy to read. You could have a joke of the month, to lighten it up a bit.
Lead by example
It’s one thing to tell someone what to do and how to do it. It’s another thing, altogether, if you are out there, in the field, doing it at the same time. Being the kind of leader that is in the trenches, building your business right along side of your team, will go a long way. Most people will appreciate the fact that you are “getting your hands dirty.”
It’s okay to let your teammates know about your accomplishments. This will spark the inevitable, “How did you do it?” questions, but that’s a good thing. It provides one of those teachable moments that we hope for.
As you can see, most of these suggestions will keep you “team focused.” That’s where you need to be. You need to be doing things with and for your team. Remember what Zig Ziglar said,
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
