The Greatest Salesman in the World

This is how to change your business and change your life!

the greatest salesman in the world can change you life and your business

When you first join a network marketing company you’ll be given a reading list. I’m sure that most network marketer have the best of intentions, but most people never read a single book. Or maybe they read some books, but never put the knowledge in them into practice.

A typical reading list probably has most of the classics on it like, “Think and Grow Rich,” “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” “The Magic of Thinking Big and “The Greatest Salesman in the World.” I’ve read all of those and many more like them. My favorite of them is “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

However, I was asked to reread “The Greatest Salesman in the World,” by Og Mandino. I remember reading it many years ago. I remember it as being a very interesting book. This time around, I’ve read the first 60 pages or so and I realized that I must be one of those people who reads a book and doesn’t put the knowledge into practice. Self conviction sucks big time!

I’m not here to write a review of the book. I’m here to give you a passage from the book that I hope that you’ll take to heart and apply its wisdom to your life and your business!

Og Mandino talks about success and says that success is built on a set of principles.

Only principles endure and these I now possess for the laws that will lead me to greatness are contained in the words of these scrolls. What they will teach me is more to prevent failure than to gain success, for what is success other than a state of mind? Which two, among a thousand wise men, will define success in the same words; yet failure is always described but one way. Failure is a man’s inability to reach his goals in life, whatever they may be.

In truth, the only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus the first law I will obey, which procedeth all other is – I will form good habits and become their slave.

destroy your bad habits with good habits

As a child, I was a slave to my impulses; now I am slave to my habits, as are all grown men. I have surrendered my free will to years of accumulated habits and the past deeds of my life have already marked out a path which threatens to imprison my future. My actions are ruled by appetite, passion, prejudice, greed, love, fear, environment, habit and the worst of these tyrants is habit. Therefore, if I must be a slave to habit let me be a slave to good habits. My bad habits must be destroyed and new furrows prepared for good seed.

I will form good habits and become their slave. And how will accomplish this difficult feat? Through these scrolls, it will be done, for each scroll contains a principle which will drive a bad habit from my life and replace it with one which will bring me closer to success. For it is another of nature’s laws that only a habit can subdue another habit. So, in order for these written words to perform their chosen task, I must discipline with the first of my new habits which is as follows …”

I’ll leave it right there and if you want to know how it ends, you’ll just have to get the book!

I think back on all of the books that I’ve read over the years and I now believe that “The Greatest Salesman in the World” may be the most important book. Of course it does require one to implement the knowledge that it contains!

To sum up what this passage is about:

The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits.”

If you would like to change your life, change your habits! If you would like to change your business, change your habits!
