So many people live their lives and think that they are in complete control of everything. Those people may think that they are in control, but for the most part, they aren’t. There are very few things that we, as humans, are really in control of.


You may think that you are in control of your own life, but too many times we find out that it’s just an illusion. Someone else is in control. Let’s take a look at a few situations and see who is in control.


You say that you have a pretty good job. Are you in control of that? You applied for the position and you did the interview, but it was the person who hired you that was in control of that situation. I hope that you’d agree that there isn’t much job security anymore. You may think that you control your own destiny with your company, but you could be laid off, have your job outsourced or off shored. You could be replaced by a robot in the future. Who’s really in control of your job?


You may have children and you might think that you are in control of them. Any parent knows that’s not true! You may be able to manipulate them into doing what you want, but ultimately, the choice is theirs. Will they do what you want or will they decide to do something else? No, you’re not in control of your kids.


You say that you have a dog that your in control of. Do you really control that dog? Try leaving the house for an extend period of time and see if that dog doesn’t chew up your good shoes.


Now you want to tell me that you have your own network marketing business and you are in control of that. You’re getting closer. In some ways, you do have control over your business. In most ways, you don’t. You don’t control the products. The company manufactures them and you can sell them. You don’t control the compensation plan. You can progress through it, but the company sets the rules.


You may spend money on advertising and say that you are in control of that. You can decide where you want to spend your money, that’s for sure, but you can’t control who sees your ad. You can’t control how many people will respond to the ad or how many people will buy your products or sign up with you.

Wow, this is kind of getting depressing. We aren’t really in control of very many things. Certainly not as many as we thought we controlled.


What are we in control of?


Apparently, not much. We are or can be in control of 3 things. We can be in control of what we do, what we say and how we react to the outside world.


We can control what we say. We are in charge of what comes out of our mouths. We can nice things or mean things. We can say positive or negative things. The choice and decision is ours, alone.


We can control what we do. We can decide to go to work or stay home. We can chose to spend time with negative people or positive people. We can decide to do something or decide to do nothing.


We can also control how we react to the outside world. This could be the weather. If it’s cold and windy outside, we can decide to wear a heavy coat or not to wear a coat at all. It could be a negative person and you can’t control what that person says, but you can chose not to spend time with them.


What does this have to do with the network marketing business?

You’re looking for the tie in. Once you realize that you are not in control of much that happens in your life, you can begin to change you attitudes towards many things. In this example, you can change your attitudes about your network marketing business.


You can only control what you do, what you say and how you react, right?


In network marketing, you control how often you talk to people about your business. They may or may not be interested. That part is out of your control. If they are interested in hearing what you have to say, then you are in control of what you say. Now they may be interested in signing up with you or they might not be interested. You’re not in control of that part either.


Your prospect can control certain things too. They may have listened to your business presentation, but now they control that decision. Will they join or not? That’s completely up to them. You may be able to persuade them, but in the end, it will be up to them.


don't be married to the outcome


This is why you’ve heard people say that you shouldn’t be “married” to the outcome of any situation. They say this because you aren’t in control of it. This is a place for a major attitude change. You need to do your part and just wait and accept prospect’s decision.


How you react to their decision is also something that you can control. If you are “married” to the outcome of any situation then you may have a bad reaction to the out come of that situation. That means that if someone says “no” to joining your business, that you might quit the business.


You should focus on those things that you can control. You can control how often you talk to someone about your business. Get to work!


You control your activities not the outcomes of those activities.


If you can get 2 people out of every 10 people you talk to to listen to your business presentation, then focus on talking to 10 people. If, on average, you get those 2 people to look at the business plan, then don’t worry about the other 8 who say, “No.” That’s out of your control, anyway.


Keep track of your activities, the more you do the more you’ll profit.
