Who cares?

How much money is in your wallet?

how much money does a guru make

What is this incessant need to tell everyone how much money you’re making? I hear this all the time. You can fire up a video from just about any guru out there and they’ll tell you how much money they’ve made these past few years. Sometimes it’s thinly veiled and sometimes it’s not veiled at all.

I was just watching a video from one of the usual suspects, one of the network marketing gurus and they tell me that they’ve had such massive success in their business that they were able to write a check to help someone out of a financial jam. Good for them, but why are they telling us about it? For some reason, I thought that charity was supposed to be a private thing??

Some other examples of this phenomenon

I won’t mention any names, but …

I was listening to a guru, on a podcast and they told the audience that their last 2 products launches did over a million dollars, each! Again, good for them, but do I need to know that information?

Another guru said that their goal was to build a $10,000,000 per year coaching business.

I hear things like, “I’m a six figure earner” or “I’m a multiple six figure earner.” A few of them will tell you that they are 7 or 8 figure earners.

I have to be honest here, I don’t really care! I don’t care how much money they’re making. It doesn’t affect my life in the least. It’s not like they are going to pay any of my bills with all that money. They’re quick to show you pictures of the house that they are having built, though.

Why do they feel it’s necessary to tell everyone how much money they make? They always say that they aren’t bragging, but it always sounds like they’re bragging. Are they trying to impress me and you? Is this the only way to get noticed anymore? Is that they only way they have to convince us that we should part with our money and buy their products and courses?

Maybe it’s the internet culture. I hear internet marketers doing the same thing.

When I hear someone telling how much money they’re making, I just roll my eyes. That person will be the first one to tell you that your income has nothing to do with how much money they’re making. Which is it? Am I supposed to believe that I’ll be making the same amount of money that you’re making or am I in control of my own income? Is it all up to me, like you told me before? You can’t have it both ways … well, maybe you can. It sure seems like you’re trying to have it both ways and getting away with it.

I don’t care that one guru made $221,000 in their first 12 months and I don’t care that another one was able to retire your husband from his healthy 6 figure corporate job in 6 months. Congratulations! I’m happy for you, but it doesn’t mean squat to me.

Your Jedi mind tricks won’t work on me!

Maybe I should start trying to find some “up and comers,” in the network marketing world and listen to them. I’d probably find them a lot more interesting than the gurus who feel like they have to crow about how much they are making in order to impress me enough to get me to spend my money.

I think I’ve had enough, gurus, but thank you!
